WAXING FOR MEN – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We know you have lots of questions so hopefully this section will be able to answer them for you.

Do many guys get waxed?

Of course they do!

Men are becoming more and more aware of their presentation and thank god for that.... Why shouldn't you be well groomed and presented? While guys may not speak about it amongst other men it is definitely a fast growing trend and set to keep on growing as more and more celebrity males are coming out of the closet about their waxing habits.

Why wax?

Personal reasons for waxing are as many and diverse as our customers, but here are a few benefits that clients have shared with us:

•Being hair-free feels cleaner and more hygienic

•Reduced body odour, particularly in summer

•Sports related benefits for swimmers, athletes and cyclists

•Improved appearance and enhanced muscle definition

•Increased self-confidence

•Partners prefer the smooth look

•Waxing of intimate areas heightens sensitivity. Unlike shaving and hair removal creams, waxing removes hair by the root. This means it takes longer to grow back and re-growth is noticeably softer and sparser. No itchy stubble, long lasting results and fantastically smooth skin............. what's not to like?

Who will perform the waxing treatment?

Your treatment will be carried out by one of our therapists. For male intimate waxing this will be done by Enza or Phil (if you prefer a male therapist.) both have been specialising in Male and Female intimate waxing for over 10 years. Trained by Andy Rouillard of Axiom Bodyworks, Jack Dunn and with Kim Lawless AKA. The wax Queen. Both of these are at the top of their profession and very highly regarded. You are in very capable hands and will be completely put at ease from the moment you meet.

What type of wax do you use?

We use a combination of soft strip wax and peel-able hard wax by Outback Organics. We refuse to cut corners or skimp on cost by using anything less than the very best. Hard wax is regarded by many as being more suitable for sensitive skin and delicate areas, however is a lost art in the UK. Well not anymore, we have brought it directly back to the lovely guys in Yorkshire.

I'm worried about being naked or becoming aroused.

Don't panic!

Your therapist is not concerned with the size or shape of your body any more than they are concerned with what car you drive or the colour of your eyes!

We aim to make all of our customers feel as comfortable as possible, and understand that you may be feeling nervous. Some clients experience temporary physical arousal during intimate waxing in response to the manipulation of their genitals or nerves - this is nothing to worry about and usually subsides fairly rapidly. Customers are advised, however, that inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.

What does waxing involve?

You will be shown into one of our treatment rooms by your waxing specialist. Once in there on your 1st visit we will ask a few short questions regarding what you are having done and make sure their are no health concerns to prevent us performing the treatment. Once the formalities are over we will get down to business you will be asked to undress. The rest is easy. You will lay on our warm bed and let us do the rest.

Will it hurt?

We wish we could say no! However most find that it is never as bad as they expected. Once you have had it done a couple of times your hair will start to grow back less and finer. Resulting in a much easier and much more comfortable treatment.

Will it feel uncomfortable afterwards?

Once your skin has been waxed a few times you will feel perfectly normal after your wax. However if it is your 1st wax the skin may have some temporary soreness usually where the hairs are strongest. This will go down after a few hours and will get easier and easier the more you have it done. Believe it or not most of our guys say they actually look forward their waxing once the initial nerves are out of the way.

Are there any conditions that will prevent me from getting waxed?

Contagious skin conditions will prevent us from waxing the affected area until the condition has completely cleared. Clients taking Roaccutane must wait 6 months after finishing their medication before receiving a waxing treatment. We are also unable to remove hair from skin that is sunburnt, chafed or broken, or from skin that has been treated with steroid creams, Retin-A, Differin or other Retinoid acne products within the last 3 months. We do not recommend having your first wax immediately before a special occasion or holiday, as the treated area may look and feel a little sore afterwards - better to play it safe and allow a couple of days for things to settle down before surprising your unsuspecting partner or jetting off .

How should I prepare for my treatment?

All you need to do is turn up clean and on time. We prefer that you do not trim the hair yourself as frequently people take it too short and this makes our job very difficult.

How long will the treatment take?

This will depend on what you are having done. However I will say that the more you have your waxing done the easier it gets for you and your therapist. We do allow extra time on your first visit.

How should I care for my skin afterwards?

You must avoid heat and friction for at least 24 hours after your appointment. This means no hot baths or showers (washing with cool or lukewarm water is fine), no sunbathing, no saunas, hot tubs or steam rooms, no exercise, and no tight clothing that might cause excessive skin rubbing. You should also avoid swimming and the use of fragranced body lotions or sprays. We recommend applying an antiseptic cream to the freshly waxed area regularly for 3 days, to soothe and protect the skin. To help prevent ingrown hairs, scrub with a loofah or exfoliating mitt 3 times a week in the bath or shower, then follow with a light slick of moisturiser.

How long will the results last?

This varies from person to person. Unlike shaving or hair removal creams, waxing removes hair by the root - this avoids the discomfort of itchy stubble and your hair will grow back slower, softer and sparser. Because of the way hair grows, it may take 3 or 4 appointments spaced evenly apart to get on a growth cycle that gives best results, but stick with it and you'll soon see what all the fuss is about. To maintain your smooth appearance, we recommend waxing regularly every 5 to 8 weeks.
